How to transfer photos from iPhone to a Windows 10/11 computer

With the integrated File Explorer of Windows 10, you can easily transfer pictures from an iPhone to a PC. All you need is a USB cable that connects the PC to the iPhone:

  1. Unlock your iPhone and connect it to the PC by using a genuine USB cable. Some USB-cables can only charge an iPhone but are not able to transfer data. These cables can’t be used.
  2. Open the File Explorer by pressing the Windows logo key and ‘E’ (⊞Win+E) or by clicking on the folder icon located on the taskbar:

  1. In the left sidebar of the File Explorer, choose “This PC”.
  2. Then, navigate through iPhone > Internal Storage > DCIM.
  3. There you will find folder which are usually named after the month, the photos in the folder were taken (i.e. “202203_” for March 2022). Then, double-click on the folder you wish to transfer photos from to your Windows PC.

  1. There are different methods to copy the photos to your PC but first you have to select them. You can select all by pressing the shortcut CTRL+ A on your keyboard, which will highlight all the photos. If you only want to copy a few, hold down the CTRL-key of the keyboard while clicking on the photos you want to select.
  2. Once done, you can either press CTRL + C on your keyboard, click “Copy” at the top left of the file explorer or right-click on the selected photos and then click on “Copy” within the context menu that appears.
  3. Then navigate to the location (folder) of your PC where you would like to transfer the photos to.
  4. Press CTRL + V on your keyboard, click “Paste” at the top left of the file explorer or right-click and then click on “Paste” within the context menu that appears. Done.

The File Explorer in Window 11 has a new/different look. The ribbon on the top is mostly different, but the steps to transfer photos to your iPhone are the same.

You can only transfer photos from an iPhone to a Windows computer, but not vice versa.
